Speakers Tapped for DisruptHR Denver 10.0!


August 14, 2018, Denver, CO –  For the first time in the event’s history and in celebration of the 10th installment, DisruptHR Denver 10.0 attendees can expect a shake-up in the evening’s format. First, the lineup has been diligently narrowed to 11 topics (from more than 60 applications!) to the speakers who will stay after the individual talks for an interactive panel conversation to take audience questions about their thought-provoking ideas. The event will take place at EXDO Events Center, 5:00-8:30pm on Thurs., Aug. 23rd.Non-refundable tickets for the event can be purchased here.

Attendees will walk away with a fresh take on expanding the talent pool to include individuals experiencing PTSD, learning why employee engagement alone is BS, and the secret to getting managers and leaders out of the babysitting business. The complete list of topics and speakers:

  • When you combine moderately engaged employees with high potential for burnout, what happens? Sam Schreiner says Only Focusing on Employee Engagement is BS, exposes crippling challenges within organizations that dismiss employee stress and reveals secrets to creating higher employee engagement before retention becomes an irreversible issue.
  • Are your managers leading or babysitting? Is Escaping the Babysitter’s Club possible in your organization? Greystone Technology CEO Peter Melby believes most attempts to create a “good” culture are too shallow to address real root causes of employee-manager division and misalignment, but offers that the quest to get managers and employees on the same team comes, simply, from the surprising truth about human nature.
  • What is the true definition of diversity? Surely, we are more sophisticated than saying it’s based only on the way a person looks, or the way an individual presents themselves daily. Calling it Resistance is Futile, Matthews unveils the importance of reframing the mindset that our talent should be branded as “resistors” when reacting to a changed work environment and challenges organizations to understand that they can achieve even greater success during times of intense change.
  • Together, Rustin Tonn and Dan Weinstein confront us to consider the idea of Trauma-Informed Employment. Many people have experienced some level of trauma and become valuable contributors in their workplaces. This talk calls the HR and business communities to task, encouraging us all to consider job candidates from non-traditional, trauma-informed, talent pools.
  • If you’re lucky, you will get older. So, let’s consider the business case for embracing older workers now. Nancy Fingerhood argues in Age Diversity in the Workplace that a workforce inclusive of mature employees encourages knowledge sharing, mentoring opportunities and strengthens business processes. Otherwise, as activist and writer Ashton Applewhite said, ageism is the prejudice that pits us against our future selves.

Life Tips from a Successful Screw-Up, Jordan George explores whether or not rule-bound HR leaders can benefit from employing the same skills and how the principles of improv can build better creators, collaborators and communicators in the workplace.
